With some help from Will’s works, playwright and actress Yvonne Hudson introduces the mother of Shakespeare’s children and the woman who bravely waited for him in her long-running solo show, Mrs Shakespeare, Will’s first & last love.

Sonnets, songs, and soliloquies are woven into Yvonne Hudson’s imaginative script for the longest-running solo show about Will’s wife. Mrs Shakespeare had several Off-off Broadway runs and and was staged by Rod Kaats in 2002 at Tribeca Playhouse. The show has seen at Prime Stage’s studio in Pittsburgh, the Tower of London, and a restored music hall in in a small prairie town in South Dakota.
At the University of Pittsburgh, the show has played in the English Room of the Cathedral of Learning’s Nationality Rooms some 30 times. Ms. Hudson’s other solo appearances have included Emily Dickinson in The Belle of Amherst at Poets Corner Arts at the historic Calvary United Methodist Church in Allegheny West, where she has directed and produced literary and theater events including the first staged reading of Ireland’s Shakespeare by Michael McGovern. She most recently presented her own compilations of Dickinson’s poetry and correspondence, “The Poet Lights the Lamp”, at Sewickley Heights Historical Center.
She mostly recently appeared as Juliet’s Nurse with Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks. Yvonne is a graduate of the MA program in theatre arts from the University of Pittsburgh where she first developed her show and her original song recital while a voice student of Claudia Pinza. Ms. Hudson’s training in Shakespeare also includes the text intensive at Shakespeare & Company through an Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council Artist Opportunity Grant and coaching with the late Barry Ingham of the Royal Shakespeare Company. She has worked for leading Shakespeare organizations including The Folger Shakespeare Library and The Shakespeare Society in New York. Yvonne is a board member of Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks and creator of the Week of Will, in its fourth year, opening with Mrs Shakespeare and running through April 30, 2018
